Twitter micro-blogging is the biggest web site with 6 million users and third-largest social networking site behind MySpace and Facebook. Because of my career, I have used Twitter to promote the supply, to drive brand awareness and positive PR, and simply drive traffic to websites. Twitter is truly unique in that it offers so much with so little (the text is ).
While I was chirping at the personal level, I find myself blogging about everything from random thoughts and interesting articles. Why am I so addicted to letting the whole world knows what dark thoughts are floating around in my head? And then I look at his followers, and now I know why. I want everyone to know who I am and what I do. I can hide behind the text and no judgments. You can choose to follow or not. On the flip side, I am a follower of the few people whose drama I can not get enough. It is a 140-character modern day soap opera. Nobody has time to sit through the entire episode more, just give me the punch line. Twitter allows us to sum all in just a few characters and help paint the picture. Do you enjoy the drama of others? Absolutely!
Now let's look at corporate America by Twitter. There are hundreds of articles out there on how to use Twitter to generate tons of traffic to your website. I know because I've read most of them.
Twitter is a simple concept for corporate America:
1st Twitter a lot.
2nd Insert links in the percentage of tweets.
3rd Get a bunch of followers.
4. Drive traffic to your website.
5th Wrong!
But it's not so easy to conceal the annoyance, it is an art form. You have the right blend blogging with expectations without appearing too hard to sell. You have to give information to his followers that they really want or need to do. I think both of Southwest Airlines and Zappos do a great job on this mix of voyeurism and blogging.
Southwest Airlines ()
Southwest is one of the best corporate America Twitters around. Not only engage with their followers, but you get the daily routine of one of its employees.
Zappos ()
Zappos is run by CEO Tony Hsieh. Tony is the text of voyeurs. He wants everyone to know every detail of your life from getting funky haircut where it is flying today. But I do not go to Zappos.com to buy shoes.
What does all this mean? To be successful, you have a little voyeur in you. Drama sells! People want to live indirectly through others. Accompanies people and companies, because they keep me interested. They give me enough information to want more. And for that, I listen to them.
